After an incredible year of introducing Healthy Ride to the city of Pittsburgh, we decided to reach out to some of our most frequent riders to hear more about their experience, what they’re using the system for, their favorite things about Healthy Ride, and of course, what we can do to improve.
Healthy Ride is perfect for students.
This week, we had the pleasure of connecting with Super User Kevin Z. who took over 275 rides in 2015!
Kevin is a student at Pitt who uses Healthy Ride to commute between home and school daily. Originally from Philadelphia, Kevin said that he wasn’t previously a bike commuter and only grew up using a bike for recreation. He joined Healthy Ride because of the convenience and flexibility it provides him going between South Oakland and Pitt’s campus as he often takes more than one round-trip everyday. While he noted that Forbes can be scary, he says he quickly picked up the way traffic moves and developed confidence riding his bike through Oakland, even on the main streets. “You have to be gung-ho about it,” he said, “The cars are as scared of you as you are of them.”
Even in the winter Kevin continues to ride, which is what’s made him one of our most frequent riders even though he started using the system in September, four months after our initial launch. He didn’t seem deterred in the slightest by the cooler weather, “I just bundle up.” Healthy Ride, he insists, is the most convenient option for him as a student at Pitt even through the winter months.
