After an incredible year of introducing Healthy Ride to the city of Pittsburgh, we decided to reach out to some of our most frequent riders to hear more about their experience, what they’re using the system for, their favorite things about Healthy Ride, and of course, what we can do to improve.
[Bike share] is a sign of a modern city
This week, we had the pleasure of meeting up with Mike B. to talk bike share in Pittsburgh. Mike also happens to be a rockstar volunteer for Healthy Ride so it was no surprise that he was one of our Super Users and had over 236 rides in 2015.
Mike isn’t new to the concept of bike share having used both the Divvy system in Chicago and B-Cycle in Austin previously. He said that he was excited to see Pittsburgh get a bike share and started using Healthy Ride to commute to work on the daily in June of 2015. Before he started riding to work, he rode the bus, but said that it didn’t give him a direct route to work, and that with bike share, “I enjoy getting outside every morning.” Living in the South Side, Mike commutes to work Downtown saying, “it saves me money everyday.”
While Healthy Ride gets him where he wants to go, he also mentioned he’d like to see stations in Manchester, North Oakland and Station Square. “I would travel more with more stations,” he said.
Unlike some of our other riders, Mike actually owns his own bike. But he hasn’t touched it since getting his Monthly Membership to Healthy Ride. “It’s well worth the convenience. I don’t have to worry about where I park it or anything.” He also purchased one of our Annual Memberships to replace the monthly payment option and said it motivated him to start riding again after a brief hiatus, even with the recently cold temperatures.
