Super User: Val S.

After an incredible year of introducing Healthy Ride to the city of Pittsburgh, we decided to reach out to some of our riders to hear more about their experience, what they’re using the system for, their favorite things about Healthy Ride, and of course, what we can do to improve.

It gives me the feeling of being in a big(ger) city, as almost all of the major cities have bike share systems.

Val has been an incredible supporter of ours since the beginning and is definitely a #SuperUserPGH. As the founder of Bike the Burgh Tours, Val’s been recommending Healthy Ride to her tour attendees all year long. She was also the model for our “How to…” videos showing our riders how to properly register, rent, return and park the bicycles. You can see her in action on our “How It Works” page.

Val starts all of her tours downtown at our First Ave & B St station so that those without their own bikes can easily rent from a conveniently located station. “The bike share is the best option for my business. It’s a cheap way for my customers to get bikes,” she said. When asked how her riders enjoyed Healthy Ride, Val said, “They loved it… They found it very affordable. They also liked the ease of renting via the QR reader in the app. It’s literally one tap and the bike is unlocked.” Val has personally used the bikes for events in Downtown that are heavily attended, when parking is difficult thing to find. For her the convenience of a 24/7 system outweighs needing to travel Downtown by car.

This year, Bike the Burgh ran tours through Downtown, Southside and Northside, focusing on architecture, street art and Pittsburgh history. Next year, Val will be expanding her tours to cover Shadyside, Oakland and East Liberty. If you’re looking for something fun to do this summer, definitely go Bike the Burgh with Val!
