Featured Weekend Ride: Museum Trip

In case you didn’t hear, it’s going to be in the 40s this weekend! While normally that would not be cause for celebration, these low, low temps have us begging to get back outside. Take advantage of some of the great things happening around Oakland this weekend and take a bike ride! NOTE: this is a suggested route, not an organized group ride.

Point A: Carnegie Museums & Library

Third Sundays of the month starting January 21 are free at the Carnegie Art & Natural History Museums! Sunday may see some showers, so plan your wardrobe accordingly.

Visit one of our all time favorite exhibits The Hall of Minerals and Gems at the Carnegie Museum of Natural History or pay a visit to the dinosaurs. Or do both. You really can’t miss. While you’re there, hop over the The Carnegie Museum of Art. It’s the last weekend to view the Teenie Harris Photographs: In Their Own Voice exhibit so be sure to check it out before it’s gone!

Want more health and fitness in your weekend? Sunday you can join one class or several at the Carnegie Museum of Art’s Winter Wellness: January. They’ll have classes from Amazing Yoga, Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre, and Ecstatic Dance along with other programming. $25-$35.

Point B: Phipps Conservatory and Botanical Gardens

Just a quick bike over the lock covered bridge and you’ll reach Phipps Conservatory and Botanical Gardens. You can lock your bike at our Frew St and Schenley Dr station just across the street. If you make it out on Friday you can stop in for Friday Nights of Winter Lights which closes February 9th. For daytime fun, enjoy their permanent exhibits along with the Orchid and Tropical Bonsai Show; it’s bound to get you feeling the warm weather vibes.

Point C: Mad Mex Oakland

Need to refuel from all your museum hiking and city biking? Fill up with one of Pittsburgh’s favorite burrito joints and enjoy a big azz margarita. Tucked into Oakland’s neighborhood, this spot is usually painful to find parking, but luckily you’ll find a Healthy Ride station just across the street.

Point D: Return to Start

Should you not imbibe too many margs, hop back on a Healthy Ride to Carnegie Museums & Library oooor pedal on home!
