Happy National Bike Month!

May is National Bike Month! To celebrate, we’ve gathered a collection of events and fun happenings to get you out on two wheels.

 

Bike to Work Day Group Rides (FREE RIDE DAY)

May 17

Hosted by Healthy Ride

As well as being Bike to Work Day, Friday, May 17th is FREE RIDE DAY for Healthy Ride! Even if you’re not commuting to/from work, all rides will be free. We’re hosting three group rides on Bike to Work Day that start at various locations and end at a BikePGH Commuter Cafe. Check out our Facebook event to sign up for a ride! 

 

Confident City Cycling class to get ready for Bike to Work Day

Want to commute by bike on Bike to Work Day, but aren’t sure you’re ready? Sign up for BikePGH’s Confident City Cycling class to learn the rules of the road. The class is designed for people who already know how to ride a bike, and are looking for special skills practice and instruction on how to operate their bikes safely on city streets.

OpenStreetsPGH is inspired by the open streets movement – a global phenomenon promoting healthy outdoor activity and community engagement using city streets. OpenStreetPGH temporarily closes streets to car traffic and invites Pittsburghers to reimagine their streets as places for people. This free event series connects communities to each other and creates a safe place for people of all ages to walk, bike, roll, and dance through 10 neighborhoods in 2019.

 

Women + Queer Night at Free Ride

Every Wednesday

Free Ride

Free Ride Bicycle Collective is Pittsburgh’s DIY bicycle collective located in Point Breeze, dedicated to recycling bicycles, mechanical bicycle education, and promoting bicycle use. Every Wednesday, they have open shop hours for women and LGBTQIA+ folx.

 

WMNBikePGH Coffee Meetups 

Every fourth Wednesday, January-November
8:00am – 9:00am
Various Locations

This program encourages conversation and spaces to come together over biking, advocacy and related topics while increasing representation of people who have historically marginalized gender identities.

 

WMNBikePGH Bike Rides 

Every third Thursday, April-October
6:00pm
Schenley Plaza, by The Porch

If you’ve been waiting for the chance to get active on two wheels with a group of friendly and welcoming cyclists, these monthly rides are the ticket for you. Join WMNBikePGH for a no-drop 10-mile bike ride around Pittsburgh!
