Healthy Ride Community Ambassadors are some of the most recognizable faces of bike share here in Pittsburgh. They are leaders in their communities and have helped us develop meaningful relationships in neighborhoods throughout the city. Our second class of Community Ambassadors has started early this year, with a number of rides already scheduled for May and the beginning of June.
Each Spring and Summer, Community Ambassadors are hired to lead group rides and demonstrate simple ways to start enjoying bike share. Last year, we went for a ride with amazing views of Downtown and the Northside from the cliffs of the Hill District. We also rolled through Homewood and Larimer where residents cheered us on from their porches. These rides helped get people excited about bike share coming to their neighborhoods. As we’ve continued to expand throughout the city, our new Ambassadors are planning unique rides that will introduce you to fun ways to ride all over the city. You’ll get a chance to try our new station at Homewood Ave and Finance St, right by the busway, Everyday Cafe, and other parts of Homewood South. We’ll take a leisurely morning ride from one of our new stations in Highland Park, and we’ll explore some of Downtown Pittsburgh’s public art.
This year’s Ambassadors are entrepreneurs, fitness instructors, and university staff. They’ll host rides for single moms, queer and trans youth, and anyone who wants to find new ways to enjoy our neighborhoods and stay fit. In the coming weeks you’ll learn a bit about each of them through our Rider Profiles.
