Born in the suburbs, left for school, moved back to the city 5 years ago.
I spent a lot of time at my grandparents’ house in Edgeworth where I’d bike all over the neighborhood and to the playground. I also remember biking with my dad, walking my bike up the hill in Emsworth before riding to Bellevue and back. Despite my preference for the city now, I appreciate the relatively calm roads of the suburbs I grew up in.
I’ve used the bike share for a year now. I had been using it to commute from my old apartment, now I use it to make short trips around town and to connect with public transportation (love the free 15 minutes with a Connect card!).
I learned to ride when I was 5 or 6 and have been on and off ever since. Just within the last year, when I first started using Healthy Ride, have I really picked up biking as an adult.
My old commute was through Panther Hollow and into town on the Eliza Furnace trail. It was a nice and quiet ride and so convenient.
It’s a quick and easy way to get around town without worrying about locking up my own bike. I also appreciate the ability to grab a bike and go when I’ve missed a bus or don’t feel like walking.
Healthy Ride is so easy to use and really makes life easier. Just today when I left the YMCA for work and another bus wasn’t coming for 20 minutes, I grabbed a bike and coasted into downtown. I’d also like to give credit to Bike Pittsburgh for getting me on the city streets with their Confident City Cycling class!
