Meet the staff of Healthy Ride! We’d like to show you the faces of the team that keeps Pittsburgh’s bike share rolling.
1. What is your role at Healthy Ride? When did you start working with Healthy Ride?
I’m the new Community Initiatives Manager at Healthy Ride. I started working here at the beginning of February. Even though I’m new to this position, I’m really familiar with the Healthy Ride bikes and the events since I used to work at BIkePGH in the past.
I also partnered with Healthy Ride for an Instagram takeover last year—you might recognize my monsters!
2. When did you learn how to ride a bike? Who taught you?
I learned when I was a kid. I didn’t have a bike, so I used my brother’s bike, which was a little bigger for me. My dad and older brother taught me how to ride a bike in my home town in Costa Rica. The terrain there is not that different from Pittsburgh, so I’m used to the hills here!
3. What kind of riding do you like to do?
I love mountain biking. That always brings me back home. I also enjoy paved trails and city riding. We don’t have efficient bike lanes where I’m from, so I like to take advantage of Pittsburgh’s bicycle infrastructure. Although I mainly ride my bike for fun or for commuting some times, I would like to train for the Dirty Dozen this year!
4. What’s your favorite trip to make by Healthy Ride?
I love going all around downtown and all the way to Randyland in the North Side. It’s so nice to have so many stations all over the city, that I can always find places to get and retrieve a bike. I definitely recommend using Healthy Ride to explore the city and find great food and art on the way!
5. What does a typical day at Healthy Ride look like for you?
Every day is different! I’m still pretty new to the job, and haven’t had a chance to be part of the event season yet, but in the meantime, I have a great time with my crew at the office. The vibe here is great and everybody is really helpful.
6. Most memorable / fun / interesting thing you did or saw while on a Healthy Ride?
I did the Underwear Bike Ride on a Healthy Ride! This was the first bicycle event I joined when I came to Pittsburgh back in 2014. This ride is about having a positive body image. It happens once a month from May to October. The Halloween ride in October is my favorite! I use my own bike now, but I always see people using Healthy Ride bikes.

How are you staying active during your self-quarantine?
I try to stay active, while being safe at the same time! I take my dogs for walks at Frick Park. I have also been trying new workouts at home. Youtube is a great tool for this. I also look for art tutorials and even baking recipes. Other than that, I make art to keep myself distracted from social media and negative news!
