On Monday, May 31 2021, the team at BOOM Concepts departed on their first ride of the season! The ride, titled “Round the Neighborway”, was a mostly flat 2.7 mile ride loop on the recently installed Friendship NeighborWay. We started our season along this route last year when the roundabouts were only temporary and the neighborway itself was only partly finished. We saw a chance to host a quick update ride to kick things off. Our first ride of the season really gave riders a chance to experience the new neighborway in its entirety. Connecting the bike lane on Negley Ave to Main Street, this leg of bike Infrastructure can help one get from the Eastside to Downtown Pittsburgh using low traffic, bike friendly roadways.
The group consisted of 2 returning riders and 4 new riders outside of the BOOM Lead ambassadors. The first ride of the season started off with 7 riders and by the end of the ride we picked up another local rider who, with their own bike, tagged along for the route and the vibe. Though our ride didn’t have any stops per say, riders got to experience some of the Friendship and comradery as community onlookers cheered on our ride and even joined us to complete the ride. That kind of community engagement is exactly what we like to see on our rides.
With things opening back up people are looking to connect and interact now more than ever. In spirit of that this season will be filled with guest appearances, collaborations with local bike groups and more. We can’t wait to host more rides and get more people out and riding with us this season. In the meantime, follow us on social media to see when our next ride is and if you haven’t yet download the Ride Spot App to try out our routes at your leisure. See you on the next ride!
