This past Father’s Day, June 20th, 2021 marked our second ride of the season and maybe one of the best rides we have had so far! The ride titled “Father’s Day Ride” couldn’t have gone off any better. Fathers new and old saddled up to join us on our first ever guest-led bike ride and our longest ride this season. We’d like to give a big shout out to Dorian Mckinley and his bike group “The Steel Rite Rollers” for partnering with us and providing an awesome route for us to ride. As our first partnership and guest lead ride we don’t think it could have gone any better and are looking forward to more chances to partner with local bike groups.
This ride had many firsts for us. Not only was it our first guest-lead ride, but it was also our first time with children out on the ride with us as well. With our 15 riders total we set out on our 6.6 mile, mostly flat route planned out for us by Dorian. Much like our last route, our guest-led route took us along 2 of Pittsburgh’s new NeighborWays. We went through four of Pittsburgh’s East Side neighborhoods including Friendship, Highland Park, East Liberty, and finished us off in Bloomfield. Riders got a chance to ride the Friendship NeighborWay, connect it to Negley Ave bike lanes, and back though Highland Park via the new Euclid NeighborWay.
As to the “Father’s Day” theme we had our route finish at Trace Brewery in Bloomfield where the team at BOOM provided participating fathers with a cold local brew to finish off the ride. On such a beautiful sunny day dedicated to Father and/or Father figures out here holding it down for the Pittsburgh youth, we felt it was only right to treat them to a cold one after a brisk morning ride! Again, shout out to Dorian and The Steel Rite Rollers for working with us! We hope this collaboration will be the first of many for BOOM and Healthy Ride, as we all work to reconnect with people and shed light on some of the smaller bike groups putting in big miles here in Pittsburgh.
If you weren’t on the ride, don’t feel too bad. We have 2 more rides coming up before the summer’s out! Until then you can find the routes from this weekend and more by downloading the Ride Spot app and following BOOM CONCEPTS. Don’t have a bike? Create a Healthy Ride account and get riding! See y’all on the next ride. Peace!
