Hey there! This is Jordan, Healthy Ride’s Digital Communications Specialist. I recently went to my first OpenStreetsPGH, hosted and made possible by Bike Pittsburgh, and it was a BLAST! The event finally made its miniature return on Sunday, July 25th. OpenStreetsPGH is an event that closes streets throughout the city and allows attendees to reimagine roadways as places for people. There was a huge turnout and it was so refreshing to finally gather safely amid the ongoing pandemic.
Various pop-up tents were set up to ensure that the riders were fed, hydrated, and having fun! MoveForwardPGH had a tent and were handing out popsicles to help combat the heat as it was a hot day. We, at Healthy Ride, also had three pop-up tents along the route. Our tents had bikes to allow folks to rent and return at their leisure during their time at the event. We also had tons of free swag to give out from bandanas and temporary tattoos to bike maps!
There was so much to do! From local businesses, food trucks, breweries, fitness classes, to live bands, there was never a dull moment.
I cannot reiterate how exciting this Mini-OpenStreetsPGH was as a first-timer. Looking forward to the next one and hope to see you there!
