Ruach Bicycle Club had their first ride Saturday, July 24th through Homewood. Our goal was to get some people out riding who haven’t rode a bike for some time and to socialize with other riders. The ride theme was “Coffee and Donuts”, we decided to also take the opportunity to support local businesses in the community.
We met at Everyday Cafe on Homewood Avenue; Everyday Café is a social enterprise created by Bible Center as a place for neighbors to connect and enjoy great coffee and made to order lunch. Before we headed out, we enjoyed a hot cup of coffee and glaze donuts. Our plan was to get donuts from Dana’s Bakery; however, they were on a well-deserved vacation! Dana’s Bakery has been in the Homewood Community for over 40 years. They have a variety of items all made from scratch. If you’re ever in the area, please stop by – you will not be disappointed!
Our ride was 3 miles, mostly flat but there was some elevation along the route. We had a total of 15 riders. Out of the 15 riders, 3 hadn’t rode a bike in years! We stopped at Westinghouse High School to take a group picture. Many of the riders graduated from Westinghouse so it was nice to take a stop here.
Overall, the ride was a success! Everyone felt good afterwards – hearts pumping, new friendships were made, and they can’t wait to do it again!
